Our STBL Pilates for Riders helps riders locate, isolate and strengthen the muscles and movement patterns they need to be strong, supple, balanced riders. The goal is to create new movement patterns and deeper foundational strength that translates into more accurate aids and a more balanced seat in the saddle. Strength and balance are very empowering. STBL has organically grown into a succesfull resource for the serious rider looking for structured ways to strengthen and develop their seat.
A USDF Bronze and Silver Medalist as well as ASFA Pilates Certified Instructor, Kirsten Gray has practiced Pilates for the last ten years, five of them as a serious and determined student of Tiffany DeMartin of Ridgefield, CT. Tiffany has instilled the importance of correctness of movement, searching for the work, isolation and strengthening of all muscles, and Kirsten has carried these concepts deeply into her daily life.
Kirsten also involves PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) techniques into the daily STBL work in order to initiate and build new movement patterns, neurologically and physically. Kirsten is currently running 9 ZOOM STBL classes a week (and looking forward to more), in addition to running her Equine Boarding, Teaching and Training business in Connecticut on 37 acres!
Kirsten Gray is a gifted communicator with a deep understanding of dressage and Pilates. She has successfully leveraged her knowledge, skill and experience to help dressage riders of different ages and ability achieve greater harmony with their horses under saddle. Kirsten is upbeat, engaging and results oriented. My coach noticed marked improvement in my position and more effective use of aids after my very first session. SK

I love Kirsten's Class! While discovering new paths of movements and learning a deeper knowledge of how your muscles and bones interact with your horse, her practice helps you build up more strength, balance and understanding of how to ride Dressage the correct way. CZ
---------------------
I recently discovered Kirsten Gray and her Pilates program specifically designed for dressage riders through NEDA (New England Dressage Association) during one of their Thursday evening webinars and ohhhhh, am I so glad I did!
As an older rider (62 yo) coming back to dressage after a few decades of doing other stuff in life, I have benefited immensely from Kirsten's targeted program to address all my problem areas that have been keeping me from riding a balanced, open and agile seat. You name the problem areas and I've got them--like "frozen" hips, ankles and toes for starters. Kirsten's Zoom classes include not only an ongoing repertoire of different exercises to address weak/unstable body areas, but also the theory and physiology behind the why and how such movements are critical for a dressage rider to embrace to be in sync with the horse's movements. After two weeks I'm already starting to feel a solid difference and yes, if my horse could gently pat me on my shoulder, the way I do when I reward him for a job well done, I'm sure he'd be delighted to do so. Thank you, Kirsten! M.M.
In my riding life of many years, I have had many instructors and can say of all of them Kirsten Gray has helped me to understand, do and be a better rider.
Her style of instruction is clear, concise and she knows your capability, but if you don't understand what she is asking for, Kirsten will explain the components to complete the movements. No other instructor explained how you use your hands, legs, body and seat to succeed when doing a required movement.
Now Kirsten has taken on another role using Pilates to strength and supple the body. She explains, when doing a Pilates movement, how it works when on a horse and helps you to understand how it collates with the horse's movements.
So, using her Pilate instruction will build strength and fluid body movements either if you are on the ground, or on a horse. CM

STBL Pilates run by the Sonnenhof Equestrian Center is not just for riders but anyone looking to align their bodies to help you create better balance, flexibility and proper posture for living a healthy lifestyle. I have been behind a computer desk for 30 years and never realized the damage it has done. Kirsten and Tiffany have brought my body back to life! STBL is a class for everyone. ML
--------------------------
Here are my reasons:
You care enough to ask.
It is completely user friendly - come when you can, pay after.
It is consistent in timing, and you stick to the time.
You have managed to pinpoint my weaknesses and give me ways to strengthen them.
You give exact and useful pointers.
It is challenging but not to the point where I ever feel I cannot do something.
Everything is linked to my riding, and will improve my body and my riding.
You gave me the concept of body self carriage (to which I added mental self carriage)
You have given me an understanding of what my horse will be going through as he rehabs back into his body and work.
My trainer thinks you are effective, informed and worthwhile of her time. I.B.
The STBL program has been transformative for my riding. Although the classes are geared to equestrians, you don't have to be one! In fact, many are not - moms, dads, husbands, kids, etc!. As an adult who works behind a desk most of the time, I struggle with balance and my ability to isolate and use independent aids when I ride. The STBL program incorporates Pilates exercises that have helped me gain flexibility and improve my balance and confidence. My husband also takes the classes and he has improved his flexibility and balance as well. STBL is offered as a mat class and it is very effective. Kirsten is an excellent teacher and the classes are geared to all levels. STBL is also offered on horseback! STBL on horseback will help you identify areas of focus. I tend to hold my breath when I get tense and the STBL on horseback lessons helped me to break this pattern. It is an amazing experience to have your horse sync his breathing with you when you breathe properly. As we ask our horses to bend and supple, we have to be able to do the same with our bodies and STBL can help you tremendously. I highly recommend the mat classes and if you can try the STBL on horseback class, do it! AH
Send us a message, and we will get back to you soon. Together we can figure out a the best way for us to support you in becoming the rider you always wanted to be!
